What it actually does
FPV — first-person view — means flying or driving from the model's own camera, through goggles or a screen, rather than watching from outside. It changes the experience completely: you are not looking at a model, you are in it, and that is why the discipline grew so fast.
In practice
A basic FPV setup is a camera, a video transmitter, an aerial and a receiver feeding goggles or a monitor. Video is either analogue, which degrades gracefully into static as the signal weakens, or digital, which is far sharper but tends to fail more abruptly.
Worth knowing
FPV flying is regulated in most countries and the rules commonly require a spotter — a second person keeping the aircraft in unaided sight. Check your national aviation authority's current requirements before flying, because they change.
