Site update — the Feed is live, and it now carries everything

Big change today: RC Crash Crew now has a proper feed, and it is where you land when you log in.

What the Feed is

It is what the people and things you follow have been doing. Newest first. No algorithm, nothing boosted, no ads — and it stays that way.

The part that makes it different from Facebook or X: you follow things, not just people. A model, your local track, a hobby shop, even a single part you keep replacing. That means the feed is useful on day one even if you do not follow a soul yet, which matters because there are not many of us here yet. There is a + Follow button on model, track, part and shop pages now.

Everything routes through it

Add a rig, start a thread, log a run or a repair, post a photo, edit the wiki — it can post to your feed automatically. You decide which of those, one by one, under *What goes in my feed*. Some are off by default on purpose: battery and component logs are housekeeping, and every single forum reply would bury everything else.

Going live is wired in too, so the crew hears you are out running instead of only the people who happen to open the Live page.

Your posts are private by default

This one is deliberate. Anything you post or do is members only unless you turn it public yourself. Somebody who is not logged in — and search engines — see the site's own announcements and hobby-shop offers, not you. If you want to be findable, there is one switch for it, and a per-post tick if you only want to share one thing.

Photos

You can attach a photo to a post now. A photo on its own is fine — no words needed.

Things I got wrong today, in the open

• Your profile said "Shop Owner" whether or not you own a shop. Every admin and moderator got the badge automatically because of how the trust levels were ordered. It now checks whether you actually own or manage one.
• The Feed had no link anywhere on the site for a while after it went live. It existed, nothing pointed at it.
• The thread controls (Watch / Share / Report / tags) sat stacked in a column above the post, so you met a wall of buttons before a word of what you came to read. They are now one row, underneath the post.
• Photos on feed posts were briefly saving fine and displaying as broken images, and deleting an account left its uploaded pictures on the server. Both fixed.

Under the hood

The database was 92% crawler logs. Bot traffic records now clear out after two weeks while real visitor stats are kept twice as long as before — so the traffic history actually got better, and the database stops heading for a gigabyte of bot noise.

Tomorrow, around 5am, there is a short maintenance job to reclaim that disk space. You are unlikely to notice it; if the site feels slow for a minute around then, that is why.
