Site update โ€” cleaner shop hours & phone numbers, a Gazette archive, and real industry news

Another round on the hobby shop directory, plus a couple of upgrades to the Gazette. Here's everything from today.

๐Ÿ“ž Every shop's phone number now reads the same way

Shops came into the directory from all over, so their phone numbers were written a dozen different ways โ€” some with the country code, some without, some as `(555) 123-4567`, some as `555-123-4567`, some as one long string of digits. In the US alone there were eight different styles on the page at once.

Now every shop in a country shows its number the way that country actually writes it, and only that way:

  • ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ US โ†’ `(818) 453-2538`
  • ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany โ†’ `030 24352165`
  • ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท France โ†’ `04 78 64 06 20`
  • ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spain โ†’ `914 68 34 93`

One clean standard per country, so you're not squinting at it. And every number is a real tap-to-call link โ€” tap it on your phone and it dials, no matter which country you're calling from.

While I was in there I caught two bad ones: a shop whose tap-to-call was quietly dialing the wrong country because of a stray `+` sitting in front of the number, and another that had `0000000000` pretending to be a phone number. First one's fixed; the second now shows as plain text instead of a dead call button.

๐Ÿ•‘ Opening hours are laid out like real hours now

Same problem, worse: the hours were printing as one long run-on line, and a few shops were even showing as open on days they were actually closed. Now they're laid out as a proper week โ€”

> Monday โ€“ Friday: 9 AM โ€“ 6 PM
> Saturday: 10 AM โ€“ 4 PM

โ€” grouped when the days match, split out when they don't, and in the shop's own local clock (a Berlin shop shows `10:00 โ€“ 18:00`, not `10 AM`). Closed days say "Closed." Days we genuinely don't have hours for say so, instead of guessing and sending you to a locked door. If a shop hasn't been claimed yet, there's a note that the hours came from public listings and weren't confirmed by the shop โ€” worth a quick call before you drive over.

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ The Gazette has a full archive now

Every edition we've ever run is one click away: the Gazette archive โ€” grouped by month, newest first, with each day's headline and story count. Before, only about the last two weeks were reachable; now the whole back catalog is there.

๐Ÿ“ฐ โ€ฆand it now carries real industry news

The Gazette was great at "new kit/body/tire dropped," but it had no way to tell you about the business side of the hobby โ€” companies getting bought, brands consolidating, a website suddenly redirecting somewhere else. It does now. So when something like that happens, you'll read it here โ€” real and linked back to the source, same as always โ€” instead of piecing it together from a Facebook thread.

More soon. As always: if something looks off, say so and I'll fix it.
