🏎️ Drift Car
A car set up to intentionally slide sideways through corners with the throttle on — low-grip tires, a gyro, and steering geometry tuned for big angle rather than grip.
What it actually does
An RC drift car is set up to slide deliberately and hold the slide under control, rather than to grip. It is scored and judged on style, angle and how well cars run in tandem — the aim is a controlled, sustained slide, not a fast lap.
In practice
Most run hard plastic or PVC tyres on smooth indoor surfaces to deliberately reduce grip. Two approaches dominate: counter-steer, where the rear wheels are geared to spin faster than the front, and rear-wheel drive with a gyro assisting the steering — the RWD style is generally regarded as harder to learn and closer to full-size drifting.
Worth knowing
A gyro is standard on RWD drift cars and takes real setup to get right. Too much gain and the car fights you; too little and it snaps round. Adjust in small steps with a dial on the transmitter if your setup allows.
