🏁 Spec Class
A racing class where the rules lock down key parts (motor, tires, or both) so the race comes down to driving skill and setup, not who spent the most money.
What it actually does
A spec class limits equipment so that everyone races broadly the same hardware — a named motor, a controlled tyre, sometimes a specific chassis. The purpose is to make the racing about driving rather than budget, and it usually produces the closest racing at any club.
In practice
Typical restrictions cover motor specification, ESC mode (often blinky), tyre compound and battery. Because equipment is fixed, the remaining variables are setup and driving — which is exactly what makes spec classes such good practice.
Worth knowing
Rules differ between clubs and sanctioning bodies even where class names look identical. Get the current rule sheet from the club you are actually racing at.
