Model memory lets one transmitter store separate settings for every vehicle you own — its own trims, end points, expo, rates and mixes. It is why serious hobbyists own one good transmitter rather than a cheap one per model.
In practice
Selecting the wrong model before driving means the wrong settings: wrong steering throws, wrong throttle end points, possibly wrong failsafe. Naming each memory clearly, and keeping a consistent naming convention across a garage of models, is the habit that prevents it.

Many systems offer model match, which ties a receiver to a specific model memory so the model simply will not run under the wrong one. Turn it on — it removes the mistake entirely rather than relying on you noticing.
