What it actually does
Goggles are how you see what the aircraft sees. They are the component that most shapes the FPV experience, and — like a transmitter — the thing you keep across many builds, so they reward buying carefully.
In practice
The main split is analogue versus digital. Analogue is cheaper, has near-zero latency and degrades into static gracefully as signal weakens. Digital is dramatically sharper but costs more and tends to break up more abruptly. Box goggles are bulkier and cheaper; low-profile goggles are more compact and use separate screens.
Worth knowing
Check whether your face and eye spacing suit the model before committing, and look for a DVR function — recorded footage is how you find a lost aircraft and how you learn from a crash.
