What it actually does
A crawler is built for control rather than speed — low gearing, huge soft tyres, long suspension travel and enough clearance to climb over obstacles that would stop any other model. The whole discipline is about precision and line choice, not lap times.
In practice
Typical crawler traits are a low-Kv sensored motor for smooth creeping, heavily weighted tyres or added chassis weight down low, and locked or selectable diffs for predictable traction. Scale crawlers add realistic bodies and detail; comp crawlers drop all of that in favour of climbing ability.
Worth knowing
Crawling rewards patience over throttle. Most beginners fail an obstacle by rushing it, when creeping the same line would have walked up cleanly.
