🏎️ Buggy
A lightweight, low-slung off-road racing car, available in 2WD and 4WD, built for speed and jumps rather than crawling.
What it actually does
A buggy is the classic off-road racing shape: open wheels, long suspension travel, low body and rear or four-wheel drive. It is the most common form in off-road racing because it is the fastest thing round a rough track.
In practice
Buggies are usually described by scale and drive: 1/10 2WD, 1/10 4WD and 1/8 are the mainstream racing classes. 2WD is cheaper, simpler and widely considered the better teacher because it punishes clumsy throttle; 4WD is faster and more forgiving.
Worth knowing
Buggies have deliberately exposed suspension, so they are less tolerant of kerbs and hard landings than a monster truck. That is the cost of the handling.
