🏎️ Speed Run Car
A car built purely to record a top speed over a measured stretch of road, rather than to race or corner.
Speeds get genuinely dangerous — run these only on a closed, cleared area with spotters, never on a public road.
What it actually does
A speed run car exists to reach the highest possible speed in a straight line over a measured distance. It is a discipline of its own, with its own equipment, and it is where the highest speeds in RC are recorded.
In practice
Typical builds use very low drag bodies, tall gearing, high cell counts and specialised tyres rated for the rotational speeds involved. Tyre choice is a safety item rather than a performance one: ordinary tyres can come apart well below the speeds these cars reach.
Worth knowing
This is the discipline with genuine danger attached. Run on a closed, long, clear stretch with nobody downrange, and use tyres explicitly rated for your target speed.
