What it actually does
A monster truck is the big-tyre, high-clearance bashing shape — tall suspension, huge soft tyres, and enough ground clearance to drive over things that would stop a buggy. It is the format most people picture when they think of a hobby-grade RC car.
In practice
The tall tyres and high centre of gravity mean lots of grip and jump ability but plenty of body roll, and they roll over easily in tight turns. Most are 4WD, most are designed for jumps and rough ground, and most have gearing that favours punch over top speed.
Worth knowing
That height puts real strain on driveshafts and outdrives on landings. Monster trucks are the format where a slipper clutch set correctly earns its keep.
