A low, road-going race car body on a flat, on-road chassis — raced on smooth pavement or carpet tracks, not off-road.
What it actually does
A touring car is the four-wheel-drive on-road racer with a full saloon-style body — low, flat, and set up for asphalt or carpet. It is the format where setup matters most, because grip is high and consistent, so small changes show up clearly in lap times.
In practice
Almost all are 1/10 scale 4WD with belt or shaft drive, independent suspension and a lot of adjustment. Because the surface is smooth, ride heights are low, suspension is stiff, and things like camber, toe, sway bars and Ackermann all make a visible difference.
Worth knowing
Touring cars need a smooth surface. On rough tarmac or gravel the low ride height that makes them fast becomes the thing that stops them.
