A volunteer stationed trackside during a race to flip over or reposition a stuck/crashed car quickly, so the race keeps flowing.
What it actually does
Marshalling is standing trackside during a race you are not in, to right cars that have rolled or crashed. It is not optional courtesy — it is how club racing works, and every driver takes their turn.
In practice
The convention is that you marshal the heat immediately after your own. Stand in your assigned section, watch your area, and put a car back on its wheels facing the right way as quickly as you safely can, without stepping into the racing line.
Worth knowing
Failing to marshal is the fastest way to become unpopular at a club, and many clubs apply penalties for it. If you cannot marshal your allotted heat, arrange a swap in advance.
