🚁 Flybarless
A modern rotor head design that uses an electronic gyro for stabilization instead of a mechanical flybar — lighter and more precise.
What it actually does
Flybarless helicopters replace the mechanical flybar with an electronic unit that reads the model's movement and corrects the swashplate directly. The result is a simpler, lighter, more responsive head with less drag and less mechanical maintenance.
In practice
The flybarless unit needs correct setup: swashplate levelling, servo direction, cyclic and tail gain. It is now the standard on collective-pitch helicopters, and the tuning has become much more approachable than it was.
Worth knowing
Mount the unit exactly as its manual specifies for orientation and vibration isolation. A flybarless unit fighting vibration behaves like a badly tuned one, and no amount of gain adjustment fixes it.
