✈️ Control Throws

How far a control surface (aileron, elevator, rudder) physically moves for full stick input.

What it actually does

Throws are how far the control surfaces move at full stick. Too little and the aircraft feels unresponsive; too much and it is twitchy and easy to over-control or stall in a turn. Manufacturers publish recommended figures for a reason.

In practice

Set them mechanically first — link position on the servo horn and control horn — then fine-tune with end point adjustment on the transmitter. Many pilots set up a low-rate switch for calm flying and a high-rate for aerobatics.

Worth knowing

Always confirm direction as well as amount before flying. A reversed aileron is the most common and least recoverable maiden mistake, and it takes ten seconds to check on the ground.
