🔧 Servo saver

A sprung link in the steering that flexes on impact so a hard hit doesn't strip the servo gears.

Too loose and the steering feels vague; too tight and it stops protecting the servo.

What it actually does

A servo saver is a sprung joint in the steering linkage designed to give way under a sharp impact, absorbing the shock that would otherwise strip the servo's gears. On a bashing model it is the part standing between a hard kerb strike and a new servo.

In practice

Most are built into the servo horn or the steering bellcrank and are adjustable by a nut. Tighter gives more precise steering with less protection; looser protects better but lets the steering feel vague and wander under load.

Worth knowing

A servo saver set too loose feels exactly like a worn-out servo — vague, slow to centre, imprecise. Check its tension before condemning the servo itself.
