🔋 Sensored

A brushless motor with a sensor that tells the ESC exactly where the rotor is, giving smooth, precise low-speed control.

Preferred for racing and crawling where fine throttle control matters.

What it actually does

A sensored brushless motor tells the ESC exactly where the rotor is at all times through a sensor wire, so the ESC always knows which coil to fire next. The payoff is perfectly smooth, predictable power from a dead stop — which is why racing and crawling both favour sensored setups.

In practice

It needs a matching sensored ESC and an intact sensor cable. The advantage is largest at very low speed, where a sensorless motor has to guess. At full throttle the difference between the two largely disappears.

Worth knowing

A damaged or unplugged sensor cable usually will not stop the car — a good ESC falls back to sensorless running. If a normally smooth car suddenly stutters when pulling away, check that cable first.
