What it actually does
Ride height is how far the chassis sits above the ground with the car at rest and its battery in. It sets how much suspension travel is available before the chassis bottoms out, and it shifts the centre of gravity, which changes how much the car rolls in corners.
In practice
Lower generally means more cornering grip and less roll, and suits smooth, high-grip surfaces. Higher gives more travel to absorb bumps and more clearance over rough ground, which is what you want for bashing and rough tracks. Adjust it with spring preload or clips, and always measure with the battery fitted.
Worth knowing
Set both ends on a flat surface and check them together — ride height front versus rear changes the car's balance as much as the absolute figure does.
