Thick lubricant used where oil would simply fling out — diff internals, drive cups, o-rings and gear teeth inside sealed cases.
Use the type the manual specifies: silicone grease for o-rings and seals, moly or black grease for metal gear teeth. Petroleum-based grease can swell and ruin silicone o-rings.
